Textures, textures, textures!

I LOVE textures! Textures in clothing, textures in pillows, textures in walls.

I love it all!

What do textures do in all those examples? It brings dimension and depth to the subject. Textures can trick the eye by making an object seem closer, larger, or even longer. The 3D perspective gives life to a subject.

For this month, we were excited to show off lots of textures in a fabulous home in Paradise Valley. Almost every room displays uses of textures…from the fabrics to the ceilings. So…let us explore!

After entering the fabulous foyer, you walk into the living area. This is where they used texture in the ceiling, chandelier, and walls. By mixing these items with solid, blank, and flat surfaces, such as this white table and chairs, the textures stand out more. The eye immediately is drawn to the chandelier and ceilings, which have solid beams and wallpaper…on the ceiling!!! They also mixed a solid white couch with the extravagant fireplace, again to show off the unique features.

How did we do this with the fashion? We mixed a flowered, textured top from Anthropology with solid white shorts. Again, the eye goes to the top, which becomes the show piece of the outfit. We even used texture in the shoes to balance out the top from the bottom.

If you have dress with texture and dimension, like this one from Johnny Was, make sure to have a simple hairstyle and shoes. It is a showstopper piece, so the simple additions, the better.

Moving to the master bedroom, the interior designer added dimension in the ceiling with these beautiful beams. But they did not stop there. There is a mix of textures throughout the room in the wallpaper to the curtains, walls and pillows.

Emma is seen here wearing a dress with fun fabric pieces falling from the base of the dress. Keeping the look natural makes this dress the stand-out. Pair with a basic sandal for fun on the beach or a wedge for an afternoon party by the pool.
