Red, White, and Black

What would our world be like without black, white, and red? The basics of all wardrobes, design, and many other things in the world. The “little black dress” would not exist. What would we do without the fiery red outfit to turn heads when you walk into a room or the basic white tee to tone down the brightness of other colors? Well…it is a good thing those colors do exist.

What I love about black, white, and red solids is they can stand alone as the main attraction, compliment as a background accent, and/or balance out a room or outfit by either toning down or adding a pop. They are strong colors that can make a statement. People even have parties around them by asking guests to just wear all of one color. In interior design, it is common to see contemporary homes with all white or black rooms…maybe even with a hint of red for color.

For this month at The Thread Talks, we take you to a gorgeous house in Scottsdale, AZ (courtesy of with Ross Greenberg with Local Board Real Estate) where the theme is black and white. It is the perfect backdrop to show off the incredible golf course views!

The black and white is a perfect opportunity to add some red pillows for a pop of color…just like in this outfit. We took some white pants, with red and black stripes, and added a bold red top. When using this type of a bold look, make sure to tone down the other accessories, such as hairstyle for fashion or table accessories for design. Let the red stand for itself.

This home also features a workout room, which was perfect to show off Emma’s outfit. Here she used a solid black top to balance well with the colorful pants and shoes.

A good accessory to either add a pop of color or balance out an outfit is your purse. Emma used this cute mini backpack by Lululemon for her post workout. I, however, had a hard time deciding which way to go with my coach purses. Red for a pop or keep it low profile with the black? Which is your favorite?

At the end of the day, put on something casual and have fun. Play a few games in the game room or relax, read a book from the library leading to the master, or the most beautiful golf views from the master bedroom. Overall…It was a great day!
