Animal Attraction

It is time to let that animal inside of you out! Animal prints are in and ready to show your personality. Leopard prints have always been around and are said to be the most fashionable print of 2021/22. But we are seeing other animals take charge in the fashion and interior design world. From giraffes to snake to zebra…we have you covered at The Thread Talks.

My daughter Emma has been a big fan of anything cow since she was a baby. Her first stuffed animal was a cow and she never looked back. I remember finding these great cow print pillows, with tan and crème tones, that she begged me to get for her bedroom when she was a toddler. So, from a young age, she seemed to have her mother’s interior design gene in her blood. I mean…not usual for a toddler to want sheik pillows.

For this issue of The Thread Talks, Emma ditched the cow print (although still popular) for giraffe. This adorable and colorful giraffe print dress is a fun change to the typical animal prints. It plays well off the bright purple in her hair. Do not be afraid of bold prints and colors in fashion and design. But keep it simple with accessories. Animal prints can quickly get too busy on the eye if paired with too many items.

Next in the animal kingdom is the leopard. This print is timeless and has been used in fashion and interior design for decades. Deborah is seen here enjoying time in her beautiful home, which is for sale in the Anthem community in Phoenix, Arizona.

What I love about leopard is the use as a fun accent to an outfit or décor…in a top to black pants, shoes to an outfit, a throw on a solid-colored couch. Leopard adds a touch of fun!

For a bolder look, try a two piece. But make sure it is subtle. Full leopard (and snake) can go from classy to tacky very quickly. In design, you do not want to use in curtains, throws, and pillows all at once. It would make you feel like you are walking into the “lion’s den” and create an uncomfortable space. Less is more!

Our last print is zebra. Some of my favorite use of animal prints are monochrome and textural. Deborah’s top and pillow are fun but not over the top. The subtle use keeps it classic and interesting. It gives the perception of texture and movement without the existence of either one. So…for those of you who are afraid of animal prints or not into being too bold, this is a great way to play in the animal kingdom…without getting bit!
